Curse of Resthaven asks what survives a reset
A developer look at its repeating mystery puts learned information at the centre of progress.
What was announced
Hilltop Studios' October 30 Xbox Wire post describes Curse of Resthaven as a mystery combining investigation, town management and card-based expeditions. Its governor relives the island's catastrophe while retaining knowledge. The developer says conversations can change with newly discovered information, and a journal tracks leads and events within the loop.
Why the idea caught our attention
A reset becomes more interesting when the situation repeats without erasing understanding. The next attempt can then test a different question, rather than repeat a memorized routine. For a mystery of this kind, a useful personal note has three parts: what happened, what you think caused it, and what observation could disprove that explanation. Keeping those separate helps prevent an attractive theory from swallowing contradictory clues. It also gives an unsuccessful visit a purpose: ruling something out is progress. The design question we find most promising is whether repeated places become easier to read as the player's model of the story changes.
